  • Gibran's picks for fine dining

Where he sends guests looking for the ultimate sample of San Diego's culinary best
    1. Rice

421 West B St, San Diego, CA "Our restaurant here at W San Diego is an awesome choice for an upscale and fun dining experience. People often think that we’re an Asian restaurant because of our name but you’ll definitely find more than rice. Chef Vic Katoch does a great job with Rice’s global fusion menu. Included with your dinner will be our exclusive Whatever/Whenever service; so if there is something not on the menu that you’d like, make sure to let us know! We’re known to make dreams become reality."

    2. Blanca

437 S Hwy 101, Solana Beach, CA "Located just 30 min north of downtown San Diego; Blanca is pure North County Chic. Featuring a modern California cuisine with a little French touch; Blanca will make it worth while for all those driving a few minutes to get there. Service, food and ambiance are amazing! Great restaurant to dine at before a show at the Belly Up Tavern."

    3. Laurel

505 Laurel St, San Diego, CA "Floating red roses in a vase, ambient music, attentive service, “sexy” decor and great food are some of the many things that you’ll find at Laurel. Located uptown just a few blocks from Balboa Park, Laurel is a great place to dine with that special someone. Laurel features a modern American/French inspired cuisine. Great place to dine at after an afternoon at the Balboa Park museums."

    Gibran's picks for trendy scenes

Where he sends guests who want to see and be seen ...
    1. The Guild

1805 Newton Ave, San Diego, CA "The Guild is by far my favourite new discovery. Located in Barrio Logan, The Guild is a quick 5 min drive from downtown. Paul Basile and Linda Karp’s concept of creating a restaurant experience such as the Guild’s in SoCo (South of Commercial Street) is awesome! Half Metal Works Shop (Basile Studio) and half Restaurant (The Guild). What makes the Guild so awesome is that every piece of furniture inside was handcrafted by Basile Studios artists, who you might also bump into inside the restaurant. The food is also something that makes the Guild so amazing; eclectic “tapas” inspired menu exploding with creativity. One of my favourite things to do is going to the Guild on Saturday mornings for brunch (Sat + Sun: 9:30am – 3pm) and enjoy a chill brunch. With a DJ spinning chill beats on the second floor, the down to earth but attentive service, amazing cuisine and cool drinks like the Passion Flame Martini (Soju + Passion fruit + Jalapeño Infusion), it’s a great start to an amazing weekend!"

    2. Jade Theater

701 C Street, San Diego, CA "Located in Downtown’s Core, Jade Theater is a hidden gem. Jade is much more than a dinning experience; Jade the type of place where you can go in for a drink and hang out in the ultra-chic ground level lounge, then proceed to the second floor to experience Chef James Montejano’s progressive Asian inspired cuisine. If dinner isn’t the last thing on your itinerary for the night, then head down to Buddha; Jade Theater’s hip ultra-lounge. Buddha features a traditional “Shanghai-esque” décor as well as some of the best DJ’s spinning."

    Gibran's picks for bars

From the young and single set to the buslting business traveler, here's where he sends guests looking to grab a beer and unwind
    1. Neighborhood

777 G St, San Diego, CA "This is my Neighborhood bar and one of my favourite places in the city to go have a beer, dine, or just hang out and watch a game. Located in the up and coming East Village and just a few blocks from Petco Park, Neighborhood features 21 local microbrews and some tasty gourmet hamburgers. One of my favourite things about Neighborhood is that they have no ketchup on the menu for their burgers. Instead Chef Jesse creates unique sauces to compliment each burger; you won’t be disappointed! Happy Hour here is a must for any beer/wine enthusiast. 4pm – 7pm, 2x1 drink specials, The staff here also knows how to treat customers well. The service is down to earth but attentive. If you frequent Neighborhood, it’s guaranteed that the staff will make an effort to remember your name. Great spot for some pre-Padres game nosh and drinks."

    2. W San Diego

421 West B Street, San Diego, CA "Our bars here at W San Diego continue to have a strong following. Each one of our bars has its own identity which is one of the reasons why each one if so unique. We never have a cover which is one of the reasons why people love coming to W San Diego. Whether you’re sipping on a glass of bubbly for an after work drink with your co workers at Karma, drinking a Porn Star (W San Diego Signature Drink) while noshing on small bites and enjoying the ambient beats in our Living Room or sinking your toes in the heated sand while enjoying our famous Blueberry Mojito’s next to our fire pit at Beach; W San Diego is a guaranteed good time."
