I adopted a kitten years ago and after he was full grown, he was diagnosed with kideney issues and possible renal failure. I had a vet from the time I brought him home, it appeared to have been a genetic condition. Once we noticed some problems, my wife and I took him to our vet in Point Loma and while we had decent service, we paid for Ringers solution, medications, needles and everything else from the clinic who would not allow us to search for better prices online. Their staff was only somewhat friendly and the service was pretty abrupt each visit. We heard about Rancho San Carlos and it took about 3 minutes in the office on our first visit to make a switch. "Dr. Jeff" (Rey) and his wife are extremely caring and considerate and were willing to listen to our ideas and answer all of our questions. The staff is courteous and very nice, the facility is clean and well-maintained. Dr. Jeff wrote prescritptions for medicine and medical supplies to allowed us to shop online and even encouraged it, knowing that would mean less money to his office. This allowed us to continue to give subcutaneous fluid to our cat and his shots as well. Dr. Jeff even went so far as to ask us to provide website information for the best prices for these and other supplies, so he could pass this information on to other pet-owners. When we got a dog, we knew where to take him for vet care. We own a greyhound, which is a specialized animal in terms of needs and care. Dr. Jeff took the time to learn more than his already extensive knowledge about the breed to better help us care for him. Boarding costs are reasonable and the staff takes good care of the animals. Medications are about average from what I have noted, when comparing to our other vet. Good hours, good location and fairly easy to get a reasonable appointment. I would recommend this clinic to anyone!

I have been going to Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic for many years, even before Dr. Strachan sold it to Dr(s) Shannon and Jeff. They can be a little more expensive than some other vets, but they also have seen the foster kittens that I care for at VERY reduced rates. They have seen us through the death of my husband's 19 yr old cat and our 11 yr old tripod German Shepherd. They have cared for all our animals with excellent results. They are very personable and care very deeply about all their patients. They stay up to date on all types of vet medicine and procedures. They were the first vets I had ever been to that offered to write a prescription to order my dog and cat meds over the internet. I didn't even ask for this, but they wanted to give me the option. Even King Stallman of the bail bonds commercials takes his dogs to them. They have never given me an incorrect diagnosis. I also read a review somewhere else that referred to the heartworm meds that were prescribed by the doctors as "unnecessary" in San Diego. I HAVE SEEN cases of heartworm here in SD. I am from Florida originally and have first hand experience with the damage heartworms do to an animal. With all the influx of people from heartworm regions, it is crazy to think we don't have them here. The mosquito bites the infected animal and then carries the infestation to other animals. Though not in the numbers Florida has, there ARE mosquitos here. I believe that yearly testing and monthly meds are a very inexpensive alternative to letting my dog suffer after getting heartworms. There are treatments to get rid of the worms, but it is very expensive and toxic. My Westie that I had when I lived in Fla. almost died from the treatment, and we had to stop it before she was rid of the worms. I have recommended these vets to all my friends and all my clients who need vets or are not happy with their current vets. I am a professional Pet Sitter and know many fine vets, but Dr(s) Reh are still the ones I choose.
