Editorial Review for Spa Velia – by Whitney Friedlander
In Short
Instrumental music and fresh incense greet visitors as they cross brown, concrete floors to a chocolate leather couch in the sage-colored waiting room. Beyond the heavy wooden doors, locals and guests of the nearby W Hotel relax in tan chenille robes, drinking tea from nearby Extraordinary Desserts or beer and wine. Six treatment rooms offer body and skin treatments, including the popular massages, which can be modified to include reflexology, pregnancy and other specialties.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoAlthough the spa's address is A Street, the entrance is on the ground level on B Street, facing the W Hotel.
ParkingThe building's garage is expensive and the spa doesn't validate. Instead, try one of the nearby pay lots that charge around $10 a day. The staff is also helpful with feeding patrons' meters.
FacialsAll facials are customized in the spa to match skin types and other needs.
BrandsBody treatments are done with Spa Velia's specially designed products. Facials are done with Sundari and Epicuren products.
When to GoThe Valentine's Day packages are oh-so-romantic with a private couples' sweet, champagne, chocolates and more.

My sister and I treated ourselves and our mom to massages and facials for Mother's Day. All 3 of us were happy and were satisfied with our treatments and overall experience but I can't say that I personally would go back or recommend it to anyone. We were greeted as we entered and offered champagne or mimosas, excellent! But this is a very "cozy" spa. If you are the type that likes the more intimate spa experience this would be it. Here is the main reason why I only rated this spa 3 of 5 stars: There are only 2 showers and the locker room is extremely crowded. After you shower you immediatly step into the locker area where the floors are wet because of it's proximity to the showers. You can only fit 2-3 people in the locker area to change and even then it is so small it feels a bit akward. There is no vanity area because it is the same small space that the sinks are at (2 sinks). If you were planning to blow-dry you hair or apply make-up this would not be the time. The lounge where guests wait for services is nice but again, small. There were 6 of us in the room waiting to be called and it was a tight squeeze. There is a small sofa in the walkway for the overflow guests, again akward. Overall it was not a waste of money but I prefer a place that I enjoy from start to finish. They need to improve in their locker room facilities and in the 3 hours we were there they had to keep reminding the housekeeping staff to replenish the towels. I am from the Los Angeles/Orange County area and I tend to prefer the larger spas like Burke Williams at the Block at Orange. But in San Diego Spa Tiki was nice.
Pros: Ambience
Cons: Tiny place
